The Passagen Verlag has been dedicated to conveying French thought in the German-speaking world for 30 years. On the occasion of this anniversary, a special book is being published that revives the founding period of the publishing house and crystallizes the core themes that continue to guide its work today. Authors from the early days, such as Jacques Derrida and Jean-François Lyotard, were key thinkers during the significant societal upheaval at the end of the 20th century, which was dominated by two totalitarian systems—communism and fascism. In light of the current political landscape, the fundamental importance of these critical positions is once again evident. This book takes the reader back to the 1980s, the heyday of postmodern philosophy in France, and illustrates the beginnings of the publishing house through selected documents.
