Ukrainians in the Waffen SS
German, 2010Product details
In 1939/40, the armed formations of the SS, including the SS Verfügung Divisions, the SS Police Division, the SS Death's Head Division, and the SS Death's Head Standards along with all replacement units, were collectively referred to as the Waffen-SS. Intended by Himmler as an elite Nazi combat organization, its strength grew from around 120,000 members in early 1940 to about 600,000 men by 1945. During World War II, over a million men from across Europe served in the ranks of the Waffen-SS, more or less voluntarily. Among them were approximately 40,000 Ukrainians. This book aims to document the history of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (Ukrainian No. 1). How did the formation of this foreign division come about, which was actually in contradiction to Hitler's previous Eastern policy?.
