Product details
A delicate impressionist jewel, full of charm and with a touch of melancholy. Monsieur Ladmiral, a successful yet conventional painter, has settled outside of Paris, where his son Gonzague visits him with his family every Sunday. They eat, they stroll, everything is as usual, until Irène, the daughter, appears. While Gonzague leads a rather dull bourgeois life, Irène engages in opaque yet lucrative dealings and reveals nothing about the cards of her (love) life. Sunday becomes a panorama of emotions in Pierre Bost's novel, as they simmer beneath the surface in families not only just before the outbreak of World War I. Rivalry among siblings, jealousy, and the fear of their father's death come to light - yet the family members would never admit this to each other.
