Wordsmith and stylist: A great unknown of Russian modernism. The Club of Letter Killers is a secret society in 1920s Moscow. Every Saturday, the members gather in a room full of empty bookshelves. They share stories with one another, each more fantastic than the last, but nothing may be put down on paper—letters are prisons for ideas and must be destroyed, manuscripts burned. Everyone agrees on this, yet mutual distrust grows, and the atmosphere of the meetings becomes increasingly eerie.
