Interpreting for the police is one of the classic fields of work for certified court interpreters. However, practice tells a different story: the phenomenon of "everyone is an expert" is particularly pronounced in the area of police interpreting. Recently, certified court interpreters and professional associations have complained about the frequent use of unqualified interpreters. What does police interpreting practice actually look like today? This empirical study, embedded in a broad theoretical discussion, aims to present the largely unexplored area of interpreting for the police and to discuss questions regarding the interpreter profile and the quality of translation.
