The seven lectures in this volume do not form a closed cycle of presentations, yet they were published in this compilation during Rudolf Steiner's lifetime. They represent a small selection of the numerous lectures that Rudolf Steiner delivered at the Berlin branch. Thematically, however, they are interconnected. They outline the contours of a Christology that ranges from the contemplation of conscience through the laws of fate to the historical development of humanity, framed within the polarity of microcosm and macrocosm. The lectures are still very much infused with the spirit of the new esotericism that Rudolf Steiner introduced in the context of the Theosophical Society, and they demonstrate with what clarity his views already lived in their entirety within him.
