Consulting is a process in which the IT consultant collaborates with the client to identify, clarify, and solve their problems, as well as to shape the accompanying change process. The IT consultant essentially ensures that a new technology is implemented in a product or system, or that processes and procedures on the client side are changed, adjusted, and optimized. This usually occurs based on an external service. However, software developers within the company often take on advisory roles with their contacts in the specialist departments, even if the title "consultant" does not appear on their business cards.
