How can we transform our current life-destroying culture into a life-promoting one? Starting from this central question, Shelley Sacks and Hildegard Kurt explore aesthetic practices for future-oriented design in dialogue. The authors, who have pioneered work in social sculpture and the culture of sustainability, understand the term "aesthetics" as the opposite of "anesthesia." In this light, aesthetic practice involves a vitalized existence beyond the pervasive numbness, and "responsibility" becomes the ability to respond to what manifests in the world.
