Few people present such encouraging pathways out of the now life-threatening, self-constructed isolation of humans from nature as the American philosopher, ecologist, and anthropologist David Abram. Inspired by the philosophy of phenomenologist Maurice Merleau-Ponty and his years of traveling as a street magician through Southeast Asia, where he was shaped by intense experiences in nature and encounters with indigenous shamans, he develops a fully embodied ecological philosophy. For him, the body is not a mechanistic-biological machine, but rather the living self that perceives with all senses, shapes our language, and lives in relation to the vibrant, breathing nature. With his rich, poetic language, he invites us to sensually experience a speaking, feeling, soulful, and mysterious nature.
