Hearing is the true social sense. Musician Hannes Heyne speaks of acoustic ecology when describing his work with traditional musical instruments from around the world and self-made instruments crafted from all conceivable natural materials, such as stones, woods, or shells. He describes the experience of creating music together that is close to nature as a healing experience. It dispels the prejudice that someone is unmusical, as everyone has the ability to discover their own rhythms, such as breath, pulse, and walking, and to play instruments like stones, woods, or metal plates that are hardly burdened by notions of skill or lack thereof.
