As long as one writes, disaster is averted. When we take this word from the poet Günter Kunert and apply it to academia, it becomes ironic: Those who do not write allow their studies to wither, not to mention the joy that is missed: the joy of successfully crafting a text; each sentence a pearl. The academic text is a string of pearls. The book embarks on a quest; it seeks contemporary scientific prose: How does one create a good text? How do we arrive at the words and sentences, at our own language - at meaning? The focus here is not on the writing environment, but on writing itself, the work within the text.
