An extraordinary crime novel about a seemingly dead man without memory on a quest for self-discovery. A hearse with three coffins drives through Munich. Destination: the crematorium. The papers of the deceased are all forged; it is evident that the aim is to make bodies disappear illegally. The seemingly dead Oskar suddenly awakens during the journey and frees himself from the rickety coffin. A note stuck to it identifies the presumed deceased as a "person without identity." Indeed, Oskar has not the slightest idea who he is, where he comes from, or how he ended up in this predicament. At the next traffic light, he prudently makes a run for it and finds himself, dressed only in boxer shorts, in the English Garden. Fortunately, it is summer, and there is a lively atmosphere.
