Dshamilja is a confident young woman, straightforward and determined. She lives in a small village in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan - alone, as her unloved husband went to war shortly after their wedding. During the daily grain transports to the train station, she meets Danijar, a shy and quiet front-line returnee who is shunned by the villagers. One evening, as he sings on his way home, Dshamilja discovers a completely different side of him: he sings about the landscape and life, and Dshamilja is captivated. When her husband returns, Dshamilja must make a choice - and she chooses Danijar, thereby going against her family, her homeland, and traditions.
