One can fly without visible wings. Nelio, a ten-year-old street child, tells the story of his life. He lies on the roof of an African house with a gunshot wound, knowing that he will die as soon as his story ends. He recounts how bandits attacked his village and massacred his sister. How he fled, found his way to the big city, and became the leader of a gang of street children. Above all, he talks about the lives of these black children. And about the paradise that is not marked on any map but can still be found. This novel holds a special place in my heart. Henning Mankell.
