Perhaps a book like 'My Sister Sara' can help to undermine the hatred in our society a little. It should be made required reading in our schools. Dietmar Schönherr South Africa at the end of the 1940s: A Boer family decides to adopt a German war orphan. The blonde, blue-eyed little girl is joyfully welcomed into the family. However, when Sara's papers arrive six months later, it turns out that she is Jewish. The family patriarch, a member of the nationalist apartheid government, subsequently withdraws his love from Sara. As a student, motivated by the racism she experiences firsthand, Sara joins the resistance against the apartheid regime. In doing so, she also leads her traditionally-minded family to a hesitant confrontation.
