The best of two cultures. Three months in the trendy metropolis of Shanghai - for most 16-year-olds, that would be a dream. Mulan, however, feels very mixed about her stay with her Chinese relatives. As the daughter of a German father and a Chinese mother, the girl from Munich struggles with her Far Eastern heritage, especially since her relationship with her mother has become strained due to Mulan's refusal to speak Chinese with her and learn the writing. However, when she meets her Chinese family, especially her grandmother, her curiosity about her maternal heritage is awakened. Nianshen certainly plays a part in her eagerness to learn. After all, how are the two lovers supposed to communicate if Mulan cannot read and write in Chinese?.
