Every summer, millions of people dance in the streets of many places around the world. It's not about partying, but about recognition. These are queer people, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals. People whose sexual orientation or gender identity does not conform to the norm have been criminalized in the past. They were oppressed and persecuted. From the late 1960s onwards, they began to fight back, and in some areas, they successfully won rights. The global movement of queer people celebrates the hard-won emancipation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals annually at Pride, a demonstration for queer rights, their preservation, and further expansion worldwide. Pride means "pride." Queer people are proud of who they are and what they have achieved over the past decades.
