Sam Loyd was an ingenious game inventor: he developed thousands of puzzles, which he published in various magazines for about fifty years, some of which became world-famous. From this collection of puzzles, Martin Gardner, himself an inventor of mathematical "puzzles", has selected over a hundred tasks for this book: Logic and number puzzles, games of chance and tasks to be solved by drawing in colourful alternation. They are all a challenge to intellect and imagination, exciting and humorous, always packed into a little story or anecdote. Numerous drawings and diagrams illustrate the text.
