The author has been to Armenia many times and stayed with a family in Yerevan. Now she sets out to traverse the small ancient mountain country in the Caucasus on her own. Along the way, she meets people who, in just forty days, provide her with a vast journey through Armenian history, mythology, and society. She learns to bake bread from the rural women, the archaeologists take her into their world of stones, Father Aspet travels with her from monastery to monastery, and everyone has ancient stories to tell.
