The Criminal Law Treatises - New Series were established in 1957 by Eberhard Schmidhäuser in collaboration with German criminal law professors, continuing the tradition of the Criminal Law Treatises founded by Hans Bennecke (1896 to 1942). Their aim, like that of their predecessor, is to ensure appropriate publication of outstanding works by emerging scholars in criminal law. Excellent dissertations and habilitations on criminal law, criminal procedure law, and criminal theory are included. In 1986, Friedrich-Christian Schroeder (Regensburg) was appointed as editor, and in 2007, Andreas Hoyer (Kiel) succeeded the late Eberhard Schmidhäuser as a co-editor. Inclusion in the series occurs upon the recommendation of a criminal law professor.
