Product details

Museums, libraries, and archives, as well as private collectors, are still missing valuable and unique cultural assets that were taken from occupied Germany to Russia as a result of World War II. The German government estimates that over a million art objects, including 200,000 museum items, two million books, and archival materials spanning three kilometers of shelves are still located in Russia. Since 1989/90, the illegal trade in these cultural assets has been increasing worldwide. Meanwhile, the German state is negotiating with Russia for the return of the cultural property that was taken due to the war, citing the Hague Regulations and mutually agreed contractual obligations for return. Consequently, the factual and legal situation has gained significant importance. Susanne Schoen is investigating to whom the war-displaced cultural assets rightfully belong.
