For several years, the phenomenon of Political Correctness, which originated in the USA, has been rampant. It is defined in the Duden as "the attitude regarded as correct by a certain public." Self-proclaimed guardians of Political Correctness monitor what they consider to be the correct mindset. As a result, all relevant areas of social life come under the control of a thought and language police. The British historian and recipient of the Charlemagne Prize, Timothy Garton Ash, sees this as "a tyranny of group veto" and a "drastic loss of freedom."
