Undoubtedly, much has changed in this rapidly developing field over the past thirty years. Even if one disregards the ongoing shift in self-recommendation methods in management consulting literature, organizational science today is no longer the same as it was in 1964. However, this does not mean that certain research perspectives have been disproven or have otherwise become obsolete. Since its publication in 1964, this work has attained the status of one of the most important recent German-language publications in the field of organizational sociology. As a compendium of modern social science-oriented organizational theory, "Functions and Consequences of Formal Organization" has been included in the canon. Thus, the attempt to establish a foundation for modern, interdisciplinary organization theory has been successful.
