Product details
Starting from Max Weber's classic assumption that rule in everyday life is administration, this collected volume analyzes communication processes between authority, administration, and the governed in European territories during the Early Modern period. Contrary to the widespread notion that these communication processes were largely determined by command and obedience, the individual studies gathered in this volume present differentiated historical analyses of the constellations and dynamics of the triangular relationship. The contributions focus on the specific forms and methods of communication between sovereigns, administrations, and subjects, and examine their linguistic expression. Additionally, several contributions emphasize the organizational character of administrations to illuminate the relationship between authoritative initiatives and administrative actions.
