The aim of the dissertation is to prove that minority protection in the Federal Republic is inadequate and requires supplementation. Initially, there is an examination of the fundamentals of the topic; the author clarifies the concept of minority and which various conceivable protection models are particularly effective. In a second step, minority protection in the Federal Republic is analyzed. The result is that for the minorities that are not explicitly recognized, the objectives outlined in the first part are not being met. The final part is dedicated to the question of whether a constitutional amendment would be suitable to remedy this deficiency. The starting point for the considerations is the proposal of the Joint Constitutional Commission, Article 20 b. The outcome shows that while Article 20 b is subject to criticism in some respects, a constitutional amendment could be sensible if properly elaborated.
