Product details

The Pandects are a compilation of works by Roman legal scholars that originated in late antiquity. In the 19th century, the Pandects were systematically analyzed by German legal scholars, leading to the development of a distinct discipline within legal science: Pandectistics. The aim was to derive abstract legal concepts and legal principles from the Pandects. The resulting law of the Pandects served as common law before the introduction of the BGB (German Civil Code). The present work is an outstanding example of the methodology employed by legal scholars of that time. In the first part, Julius Baron addresses the general teachings on rights in the subjective sense; in the second part, he examines the law of possession; in the third part, he discusses real rights; in the fourth part, obligations; in the fifth part, family law; and in the concluding sixth part, inheritance law.
