"Taine and English Romanticism" is the title of the dissertation published in 1924 by Kathleen Murray. It focuses on the French philosopher and critic Hippolyte Adolphe Taine, drawing on his 1864 work "Histoire de la littérature anglaise" to analyze his judgment on English Romanticism.

Equally interesting as the content of the dissertation are the circumstances surrounding its creation: Kathleen Murray was the lover of Carl Schmitt, who supported her in various ways. Schmitt facilitated the initial contact with the Romanist Ernst Robert Curtius, who subsequently supervised the dissertation. It is now known that Schmitt also collaborated "co-authorially" on the dissertation itself. Kathleen Murray expressed her gratitude by dedicating the book with the inscription "To Professor Dr. Carl Schmitt at Bonn am Rhein this little book is dedicated," while Schmitt referred to it directly in the preface of the second edition of his work "Political Romanticism.".
