Product details

In 1908, journalist Emil Kläger published a report about people in the underground of Vienna - vagabonds, outsiders who can no longer find a place in society and live in the sewers of the ever-growing city. At the Vienna Urania, Kläger had previously reported on his explorations. His lantern slide presentations drew full houses. Misery and crime attracted the audience. Kläger's "Wanderbuch aus dem Jenseits" is now available in a facsimile edition. It sheds light on those corners of the city that otherwise remain hidden. The photos by Hermann Drawe capture faces that gaze into another world because they have seen everything in this one. Kläger brings them back before the eyes of his astonished readers. A detailed afterword provides information about Kläger, his life, his time, and his work. Emil Kläger (1880-1936) was an editor.
