Product details

Insa Cassens, Marc Luy, Rembrandt Scholz 1945 marked the end of World War II, and the defeated Germany was divided among the occupying powers: the USA, Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. Two blocs emerged: the integration of the western occupation zones into the community of Western powers and that of the eastern part into the system of the USSR reached its peak in 1949 with the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In the parliamentary democracy on one hand and the communist people's democracy on the other, the people in these two states were subjected to entirely different political, economic, and social conditions over the following 60 years. Thus, at the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, two populations met that had developed significantly in terms of many demographic differences.
