Rising energy prices and legal obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are forcing companies to use end energy sources such as natural gas, heating oil, or electricity more efficiently. In this context, the focus is increasingly on organizational measures in addition to technical solutions. Markus Rager highlights the potential of energy-oriented production planning against this backdrop. A core element is the energy-oriented machine scheduling. He examines its objective system in terms of both technical and business aspects. Building on this, he develops heuristic solution approaches for the underlying combinatorial optimization problem based on evolutionary algorithms and evaluates them using an example from the textile industry. The author demonstrates that significant savings in end energy sources can be achieved.
