The intertwining of goods markets in the 1960s and 1970s was followed by the globalization of financial markets in the 1980s and 1990s of the last century. This has resulted in the current competition among corporate governance systems, where national legislators compete for the establishment of internationally operating companies through legislation in commercial, corporate, or tax law. In terms of an economic interpretation of law, Dirk Simons examines the business-relevant effects of selected legislative changes on the behavior of equity providers, company management, auditors, and supervisory boards. The focus is on the areas of international harmonization of accounting, strengthening of statutory audits, executive compensation, and the organization of the supervisory board.
