Logistics has secured a place as a business discipline alongside its undeniable economic significance. However, its identity as an independent scientific field has not yet been sufficiently clarified in the tension between the demands for scientifically theoretical explanations on one hand and practice-oriented guidelines on the other. Günter Prockl identifies components for a theoretical framework for designing logistical systems within organizational and management research. He then populates this construct with problem statements from logistics practice. As a methodological framework and communication tool, he develops speaking instruments, thereby initiating the mutual transfer of results between scientific and practical contexts. This results in a series of catalogs, typologies, and taxonomies.
