Since the deregulation of numerous submarkets, many airlines operate transport systems with a hybrid hub-and-spoke structure. The model-based design of hub-and-spoke flight networks within the network management of airlines is discussed in the relevant location planning literature under the term Hub Location Problem. The planning approaches developed over the past 20 years are predominantly static-deterministic and ignore temporal-vertical interdependencies that must be considered when reconfiguring stationary and mobile resources.
