Product details
So far, science and technology have been portrayed as institutionally distinct areas that develop largely independently of each other. However, based on recent findings, the question arises regarding the validity of this thesis and the significance of the interaction between these fields. Can the interaction, as well as the formation and evolution of a common network between both areas over time and in the context of the emergence of a closed industry, be considered, and what significance does this network have for the development of an industry? Jan Kirsten examines, using the example of a knowledge-intensive sector from the biotechnology field, how the interplay between science and technology evolves in the context of industrial evolution. Building on network theoretical approaches, he finds that a pronounced interaction between the two areas exists.
