For centuries, the analysis of heart rhythm has been a foundation of medical art. Doctors in ancient Tibet used the interpretation of heart rate to draw prognostic conclusions, a practice that deserves further attention. The rapid advancement of science provides more information about the details, but the subatomic resolution of structures hides risks, and complex procedures have become fragmented into static impressions. The same has happened to the ECG. The revolutionary development acknowledged by the Nobel Prize for Einthoven shifted the focus from the analysis of dynamic heart rate to the static analysis of the heart stream curve. It is only with the ECG Holter recording over longer periods that cardiologists have rediscovered the old dynamic. With continuous recording of heart rate and its periodicity, it has become accessible to a new dimension.
