Andreas Pittler once again tackles his favorite theme. This time, he explores the life paths of three Viennese families over three generations, from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The entrepreneurial Glickstein family, the petty-bourgeois Strechas, and the working-class Bielohlawek family intersect at the business of Baron Glickstein, the Hernalser Bräu, where they experience the final days of the monarchy, the world war, the First Republic, and ultimately the downfall of Austria in 1938. In his Viennese triptych, the first volume of which, "Wiener Kreuzweg," is now available, Pittler creates a microcosm that reflects the hopes, fears, wishes, and anxieties of people against the backdrop of significant historical events. Once again, Pittler proves to be a sensitive chronicler, providing a literary voice to people in their times.
