Classic Christmas images by Rembrandt, Raphael, Fra Angelico, and others are juxtaposed with our everyday experiences in this extraordinary picture book: in a shopping arcade, at a bus stop, on a main road, or in a fast-food restaurant. In this mutual interplay, Christmas becomes a phenomenon in which the warmth and mercy of God shine through the coldness and harshness of our world. Texts from the Gospels are associated with the images. The well-known poet Andreas Knapp incorporates both and explores the existentially significant side of the Christmas message in his poems.
