Every June, right in time for Art Basel, Jörg Becher publishes a ranking in the business magazine Bilanz: the 50 most important artists in Switzerland. Initially, there was a lot of irritation. Critics accused Becher of trying to force art into a ranking system. This list has existed for 15 years now and has become firmly established – among the public, collectors, and gallery owners, and even among the artists themselves. What has been missing until now is the book accompanying the list – featuring photo portraits and showcases of works in both image and text.
