A discovery in the archive: Around 1,250 glass negatives from the period between 1910 and 1925 are being re-envisioned at the Keystone image agency in Zurich. The quality of these photographs has been undisputed from the beginning, but the circumstances of their creation remain largely unknown. Thanks to thorough research, a new chapter in Swiss photographic history can now be written: Jules Decrauzat, born in Biel in 1879, from whose extensive body of work the surviving glass negatives originate, is undoubtedly the first and, at his time, the most significant photojournalist in Switzerland. Jules Decrauzat (1879-1960) was already a sought-after observer at the age of twenty and reported on world events for the French press. From 1910 onwards, he wrote for the oldest Swiss sports magazine, 'La Suisse Sportive', covering the first motorized flight attempts, attending car and motorcycle races, and capturing breathtaking moments.
