Product details

In autumn 1958, the Lake Constance water supply project was launched, an infrastructure initiative whose largest part remains hidden underground. In the first expansion phase, 2160 liters of water per second were extracted from Lake Constance at a depth of approximately 60 meters, treated on Sipplinger Berg, and transported through hundreds of kilometers of pipelines across the Swabian Jura to the Stuttgart metropolitan area. However, what is remarkable about this project is not only the technological challenge of combining lake water treatment with long-distance water supply, but also the exceptional design quality of the visible parts of the facilities, created through collaboration between engineers, architects, landscape planners, and artists. Hermann Blomeier, who settled in Constance in 1932 after obtaining his architecture diploma at the Bauhaus Dessau under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, played a significant role in this endeavor.
