In Peenemünde, large rockets were launched as prototypes for new types of terror weapons during World War II. The graphic designer of the Army Research Institute, Gerd de Beek, painted images on many of them intended to bring good fortune to the flight or express the power of the new technology. The leadership of the Peenemünde project adopted a tradition of decorating and individualizing aircraft and other military equipment. This accompanying volume to the exhibition of the same name at the Historical Technical Museum Peenemünde presents for the first time the 40 documented decorations of the A4 rockets from Peenemünde and the post-war period, providing a historical interpretation.
