Product details

The David by Michelangelo, created between 1501 and 1504 in Florence, is the first monumental statue of the High Renaissance and is considered the most famous sculpture in art history. The original has been housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence since 1873. A marble copy was erected in 1910 in front of the Palazzo della Signoria, and a bronze cast is located at the Piazzale Michelangelo. Not least because of David, Florence has become a modern pilgrimage site. For over 20 years, the artist Pavel Schmidt has been working with the figure of David – more specifically, with the sculptural figure of David – which repeatedly appears as a leitmotif in his artistic work. This book provides insight into the results of his transformations of David: through artistic interventions, the mass-produced figures are transformed into unique individual pieces.
