In 1938, the National Socialists organized the exhibition "Degenerate Music" as part of the Reich Music Days in Düsseldorf. To reconstruct this exhibition, which was first shown in 1988, the accompanying volume "The Suspicious Saxophone: Degenerate Music in the Nazi State" was created. With numerous historical illustrations and textual documents, as well as extensive commentary essays by experts, this volume has since established itself as a standard work on the topic of music in National Socialism and is now available in a new edition. The enclosed CD features the opening speech by State Councilor Hans Severus Ziegler, who conceived the exhibition in reference to the Munich exhibition "Degenerate Art" from 1937.
