Hüsch's critique of the times was always an ideological critique of the skeptical individual, the common man on the street who has his own thoughts. Although he was by no means on the sidelines during the years of revolt and, like many at that time, wished for "Come, hot autumn, and turn all the trees red," he was accused of a bourgeois trend of trivialization. At the folklore festival at Waldeck Castle in 1968, he was even booed off the stage amidst wild insults - "Kitsch sentimentality with gold brocade." The irony of history is that today he is among the last - and at the same time the best - in the industry who still think in the categories of politics and society, critique and solidarity; who can still develop ideas out of their own initiative and do not have to recite texts written by hired gag writers until the ratings guillotine falls.
