Product details
Barbara Davatz's "As Time Goes By. Portraits 1982, 1988, 1997" is now considered a classic. The photographer continues her conceptual long-term portrait series by photographing her subjects again in 2014, 32 years after the initial shots. Against a light gray background in her photo studio, in strict frontal alignment and looking into the camera, Barbara Davatz first portrayed twelve young couples in 1982, who are in love, friends, or related. She observes the personal and collective details of the poses in a sober, conceptual, yet empathetic manner. In 1988, 1997, and now again in 2014, she reconnected with the subjects and formally documents continuity or change, the evolution of relationships, and the metamorphoses of self-presentation. From the original twelve double portraits, relationship family trees emerged, reflecting changes in partnerships.
