Product details

In 2008, Swiss artist Thomas Krempke began photographing daily. He prints these images and pastes them into notebooks, relating them to one another and writing about them. This creates a protocol of his perception, a photographic diary, a cartography of his seeing. He photographs where he is, capturing what he encounters. He takes nothing away, adds nothing, not even light. Krempke's images do not depict extraordinary events, wars, poverty, or exotic landscapes, but rather what is called everyday life. However, photographing transforms this everyday life – the world is no longer the same; the gaze increasingly penetrates beyond the appearances of daily life, leading to an almost microscopic journey of discovery through the previously unseen and undiscovered. Everyday life reveals itself with new dignity and poetry, shifting the importance and proportions. Against the flood of media images, Krempke presents his own, creating a kind of parallel world, a coded version of his life – like in memory, like in a dream. Similar to waking up, when perception oscillates between the inner images of the night and those of the day, he photographs in a state of waking dreaming, a somnambulant clarity – intuitively following his impulses, without intention. Through the montage of images and texts, he explores his everyday perception, his seeing, his photographing, and ultimately the formation of his worldview.
