Seemingly incompatible elements come together effortlessly here: Lidija Dimkovska's poems can be both drastic and empathetic, humorous and serious at the same time. Nothing is too insignificant or unpoetic to spark a vivid storm of associations: a nail clipper, a bouillon cube, or aloe vera serve as the unassuming starting points for Dimkovska's balladic narratives, which, told with irony, anger, depth, and humor, end weighty and completely unexpectedly. Dimkovska also addresses feminism, suicidal thoughts, the Russian Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky, sex, and visions of the future with the same virtuosic ability to transform the ridiculous into something pointed and extremely precise.
