Product details
International Literature Prize 2016 for "Kill the Poor!" In her uniquely poetic language, Sinha tells the story of a lost childhood in India, caught between yesterday and today, between family and political history. After many years in France, Trisha returns to her birthplace of Kolkata for the cremation of her beloved father. In the abandoned family home where she grew up, the furniture and familiar objects from old days send her thoughts on a time travel journey into the past. For instance, there is the red quilt that not only reminds her of the peddlers who made such quilts but also of the night she watched her father hide a revolver in that very rolled-up blanket. Or the small bottle of hibiscus oil, which her mother Urmila used for her headaches.
