Product details

In a café, a few young men sit, drinking and reading their texts to each other. The artist bohemia, with its drinking sprees and its rage against everything bourgeois, forcefully enters literature in a fierce, fragmented, and associative manner. The decay of bourgeois identities, gender roles, and the liberation of sexuality—the intrusion of modernity into psychological constitution—finds expression in the figure of the "fool," who appears weak-willed, demonic, and barbaric, remaining profoundly lonely. Franz Jung studied economics, law, art, and theology in Leipzig, Jena, and Breslau before moving to Munich in 1911. There, he was in close contact with Erich Mühsam and the Munich bohemia. In 1913, he moved to Berlin and became part of the circle of artists from which the Dada movement emerged. Jung led an adventurous life as a novelist and playwright, a drifter.
