Product details

Eva came from Berlin, Iréne from Vienna. They were Jewish emigrants who fled from the Nazis into exile and were later caught by them. They survived. Thus, they were able to tell their story. About escape, internment, and illegality. Vera Friedländer read their accounts and created this book from them. A testimony that touches and provokes reflection. It is not a heroic epic, nor a panegyric on struggle and resistance. It is simply the calm, factual report of two unknown women about a difficult time. They did nothing more than bravely assert their legitimate right to life. Eva, born in 1921, lives with her husband and daughter in Los Angeles; Irène passed away at the age of 87 in 1975 in Brussels.
